Dr. Ancona taught the audience how to keep a dream diary, explained the importance of doing so, and presented helpful insights into understanding the mystifying language of dreams.
According to Ancona, people want every piece of their dream to fit together perfectly, but it just doesn't work that way. Keeping a dream journal might be a more methodical technique for analyzing dreams.
When keeping a dream journal, there are eight things to consider. They are:
1. Other people in the dreams; 2. The time of day; 3. The setting; 4. Colors; 5. Vivid or unusual symbols; 6. Actions; 7. Feelings upon awaking; and 8. Current happenings in a person's life.
Ancona explained that foods, medications, smoking, and sleep deprivation can affect dreams. Also, he urged the audience not take dream books too seriously.
However, his best advice was saved for last, when he stated, "The best analyst in the world is a good friend and a glass of wine."
