Inspired by an upbeat atmosphere and lively music, participants pedaled stationary bicycles, led by Certified Spin Instructor Lois Burmester, for 99 continuous minutes. Just over $1,000 was raised, Ball said.
The Irene and Eric Simon Brain Research Foundation was founded during 2004 in Sparta by Faye Simon Harac to honor the research of her father Dr Eric Simon. As president of the organization, Harac stressed how fundamental basic research of the human brain has led to clinical advances in the treatment of individual brain diseases, disorders, and injuries.
According to Harac, proceeds from the event went towards the IES Brain Research Foundation Summer Student Fellowship Program, the Teacher Recognition Program, and advance research that will lead to effective treatments for brain diseases and disorders such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer's.
A special recognition was given to Applebee's of Newton which provided T-shirts and gift bags.
