"We weren't expecting a huge turnout since our sign-up sheets were a bit empty," said Noelle Kalipetis, club president. "I was pleasantly surprised at 6:15 when a flood of people came through the doors."
Although the club deals a lot in poetry, the open mic night was open to all art forms. These included singing, acting, and playing music.
"A ton of bands showed up, and we even had some people from the December show make a second appearance," said Kalipetis.
The band "Toast" was there along with many other fine performers, some of which were making their debut performances while others were just there to mingle.
President Noelle Kalipetis and Vice President Katie Iannacone both wowed the audience by singing some popular as well as self-written songs. Out of all the performances, a great deal of the music played was original works by the artists.
"Of course it is nerve wracking to stand up in front of a bunch of strangers and sing a song you may not know perfectly, but you get up there, do your best, and just have fun," said Kalipetis.
"The acts were great, but the good part was how many book and food donations we had," said Melissa Uhl, one of the club officers.
There was a two-dollar cover charge, or members of the audience could donate a book, which would go to the Bristol Glen retirement community. Many people donated books.
"There was a lot of good food," said Mike Jones, an SCCC student. "There wasn't just cookies and sweets (which were great), but there was also real food like pizza, crackers with cheese, and a ton of other things to choose from just in case someone missed dinner," said Jones.
Thanks to donations, the club was able to put out an impressive amount of food and beverages spanning almost four tables.
The event was so successful that there is talk of an Open Mic Night during the summer.
